Contest
The First International Student Competition in Colorectal Surgery - RSCS 2026
About the Contest
Participants are invited to present a clinical case in the field of colorectal surgery that has educational, scientific, or practical significance.
Date
The contest will be held on September 4, 2026, during the Quarterfinal stage of the Competition.
Application Deadline
Applications are accepted until July 30, 2026, inclusive.
Purpose
The purpose of the contest is to assess participants’ clinical reasoning, their ability to analyze diagnostic and treatment decisions, justify the chosen management strategy, and professionally present a clinical case in the format of an oral presentation.
How to Participate?
To participate in the contest, you must:
- Prepare the clinical case text in DOC or DOCX format.
- Prepare the presentation in PPTX format using the template.
- Complete the registration form on the Competition website.
- Attach the clinical case text and presentation to the form.
- Each team may submit only one clinical case to the contest.
Abstract Formatting Guidelines
Participation Format:
- Format: in-person oral presentation.
- Presentation language: Russian or English.
- Participation is optional; however, it gives teams the opportunity to earn additional points toward their overall Competition ranking.
- Abstracts of the best submissions are planned for publication in the conference proceedings.
- Participation in the contest and publication of abstracts are free of charge.
Presentation Format:
Total presentation time: 6 minutes:
3 minutes — presentation;
3 minutes — answers to the jury’s questions.
The use of visual materials, including photos, diagrams, videos, and other materials that help present the clinical case, is encouraged. All materials must comply with medical ethics requirements and must not contain any data that could identify the patient.
Evaluation Criteria
Maximum score: 10 points.
Clinical significance and relevance of the case
up to 2 points
This criterion assesses the importance of the case for practice, education, or discussion in the field of colorectal surgery.
Scientific and educational value
up to 2 points
This criterion assesses the presence of clear conclusions, practical lessons, and the significance of the case for the audience.
Logic of clinical reasoning
up to 2 points
This criterion assesses the consistency of case presentation and the justification of diagnostic and treatment decisions.
Answers to the jury’s questions
up to 2 points
This criterion assesses the reasoning behind the answers, understanding of the clinical situation, and the ability to engage in professional discussion.
Quality of the presentation and visual materials
up to 2 points
This criterion assesses the structure of the presentation, clarity of visual materials, clarity of delivery, and compliance with the time limit.
Scoring
Based on the presentations, the jury will determine the winners of the Clinical Case Contest.
Points counted toward the overall Competitions ranking:
1st place — 1 point;
2nd place — 0.7 points;
3rd place — 0.5 points.
