Russian Society of Colorectal Surgeons (RSCS)

The largest professional medical association in Russia for specialists treating a wide range of diseases of the abdominal and pelvic organs. The society unites over 3,000 physicians, one-third of whom are heads of clinics and department chairs from all regions of the country. RSCS promotes the implementation of high standards of medical care for patients with colorectal and anorectal diseases across Russia.

The society’s annual conference is the INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE RUSSIAN SCHOOL OF COLORECTAL SURGERY ( RSCS International Conference) — a unique educational event that, for the past 16 years, has remained the largest scientific conference in the post-Soviet space dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the intestines, abdominal organs, and pelvic region. Participants of the school have the opportunity to learn advanced techniques from leading representatives of international clinical and academic centers.

In 2025, the 15th RSCS International Conference was held in Moscow, bringing together 1,671 participants from 28 countries. It is one of the most significant events in the field of colorectal surgery, uniting experienced specialists and young doctors.

The Competition final will take place in 2026 as part of the 16th RSCS International Conference, continuing the tradition of uniting professionals and advancing the field of colorectal surgery.

Participation Format

✦ Team-based: every member contributes.

✦ Universities can register multiple teams.

✦ Free participation — registration required.

Team Composition

✦ Each team consists of 3 undergraduate medical students, with 1 designated as the team captain.

✦ Each team has a mentor (resident, senior doctor, or department staff) to guide and support the team throughout all stages.

Language Tracks

✦ Choose to participate in Russian or English

✦ Language track must be selected during registration.

Prizes and Awards

All participants will receive a personalized certificate confirming their participation.

All finalists will receive commemorative prizes and the opportunity to attend the 16th International Conference “Russian School of Colorectal Surgery” free of charge.

Teams placing 1st to 3rd will be offered a one-week internship in the colorectal surgery department at Sechenov University

Main Stages

Stage I — Preparatory

February – March 2026

  • Team formation.
  • Preparation and recording of a video demonstrating intestinal anastomosis.
  • Registration on the website and submission of the video link by March 15.
Anastomosis Assessment Criteria
Stage II — Online Selection

April – May 2026

  • Solve case-based clinical scenarios on the platform and participate in an interview with the expert committee.
Stage III — Final (On-site)

September 2026, during the 16th RSCS International Conference

  • Presentation of the team video profile.
  • Completion of practical and theoretical tasks in core areas of general and oncological coloproctology.

*Teams with the highest combined scores from Stages I and II will advance to the final

Stage IV — Exclusive Internship

  • Selection of the winners.
  • One-week internship in the colorectal surgery department at Sechenov University.

FAQ

Students of years 1–6 of medical universities in Russia and other countries. Russian students may choose the English track; in this case, all stages will be conducted in English. Format — team-based, 3 people per team. Multiple teams from one university are allowed.
